Abstract
This study presents a socio-moral and psychological analysis of the attitudes of the hypocrites (Al-Munafiqun) as described in the Glorious Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Hypocrisy, a significant threat to the early Muslim community, is examined from the perspectives of social behavior, moral failings, and psychological tendencies. The paper explores the defining characteristics of hypocrisy, such as duplicity, insincerity, and manipulation, as outlined in Qur’anic verses and Prophetic traditions. It delves into the socio-political context of Medina, where the phenomenon of hypocrisy emerged as a challenge to unity and faith, analyzing its roots in personal interests, tribalism, and weak belief. By synthesizing textual evidence and scholarly interpretations, the study highlights the moral lessons and psychological insights offered by Islamic teachings to identify, address, and counteract hypocrisy. The findings aim to provide a deeper understanding of the spiritual and communal implications of hypocrisy and its relevance to contemporary moral and psychological discourse.
